When American television network CBS launched the children's drama series Daktari in 1966, they cannot have known that they were planting the seeds of a revolution in digital camouflage design. Nevertheless, signature management consultant Brad Turner insists that the show inspired his life-long fascination for camouflage patterns.

'Daktari is definitely where it all started,' says camouflage designer Brad Turner. The show followed the work of Dr Tracy, his daughter Paula, and his staff, who were frequently pitted against poachers and local officials while striving to save and protect animals. Tracy's pets, a cross-eyed lion named Clarence and a chimpanzee named Judy, were also popular characters.

'But it was the zebra-striped Jeep pick-up that really fired my imagination,' Turner admits. 'I painted silver tiger-stripes on a navy blue toy VW Kombi, because I wanted it to look like Daktari's Jeep.'
